In Excel 2016, Microsoft added a new Excel chart type: the Waterfall chart (also known as a bridge chart). Finally! It is very user-friendly but unfortunately not flexible. To create a flexible waterfall chart from scratch in Excel is not as straight forward as creating other charts. Therefore, I have uploaded a sample workbook to my GitHub repository with some of my favourite waterfall charts (including detailed instructions on how to build them) which you can download and use.
The Waterfall chart is liked by many as it is a neat way of presenting and explaining the drivers behind the change of a value (e.g. the drivers behind the change in EBITDA between two years).
